Cell Phone Project
This project was the first test to see how creative we could get with photography before learning anything. Seeing what we could come up with using our phones and random objects opened my eyes to the different world a lens is capable of showing us. I learned that a camera can make any small object larger than life, and even the dullest object bright in the dark. I found the skull to be one of the most successful objects to photograph because of it's contrast in the dark lighting and its ability to look distorted at different angles. The object I struggled with the most was the gourd because it had a definite shape that was hard to change. I'd like to recapture it at closer angles to bring out the colors it had as well as the patterns along its curves.

My experience with photography is very minimal, but so far it's been an awesome learning experience. I tend to enjoy photographing the basics in life that bring comfort to people, in uncomfortable settings and/or with a melancholy feel. I find myself often photographing close up images of my surroundings when I'm alone working on a new writing or art piece. Some of my favorites that I have taken are of pieces of somewhat lively art on the walls of an abandoned psychiatric hospital in downstate New York. This semester I mainly look forward to learning how to truly capture my emotions towards situations I am in through the lens of a camera as well as being able to alter reality as we think we know it.

Basics Of Aperture: Depth of Field
This series of photos was taken in my sitting room at my house. I was attempting to capture what it is about this room that makes it so comforting- the records to represent the music; the coffee that I drink when I want to relax; the pillow to show the comfiness of this space; the candles that surround the room and offer soothing scents. This room is where I prefer to spend my time alone when I need space to clear my head or listen to music in as work on my studies etc. The aperture in each image captured was first set low to portray a shallow depth of field with a fast shutter speed, and then readjusted to have a higher aperture with a slower shutter speed to show a deeper depth of field.

Shutter Speed Exercise: Object In Motion
In this project, we had to use different shutter speed settings to use a variety of exposures. The purpose was to be able to learn how to capture different visions of movement. For each picture, the subject used had to remain constant, while the things being "blurred" changed to show different movements.

Compositional Consideration
To understand composition in photography, we had to take a series of photos that held different basic rules in photography. For each picture, a different rule was applied. This helped us understand how to enhance our photographs when considering these compositions. One thing that had to remain constant was the color.

Lighting: Remade Identity
This assignment was all about finding how to correctly light an object from different points of view. Different angles and positions of light sources cause different areas of the subject being photographed to stand out. I used one of my classmates to photograph wile we worked on the project in class, and she sat for a series of photos; each with a different light setting. Due to the darkness behind her from the areas where light was absent, it was difficult to get super clear photos. The light was also harsh at times and obstructed my classmates face, but I was still able to grasp the essence of where exactly the light source was. The first project had to be in black and white, and the other in color. The lighting was what had to remain constant in both projects.
